So I’ve always struggled with the last few days of school for middle schoolers. No final exam to study for, yet I run out of content to keep the kids occupied. So this past school year I posed a simple question to my kids, “What advice would you give future students to prepare them for this class?”

It has enhanced instruction in two major ways for me. First, creating/recording the project helps to engage students on the last week of school with the video making process. It also gave me a really awesome alternative to the dreaded ‘syllabus day.’

I find it to be a much more engaging way to introduce my classroom to a new batch of learners. It also feels like a passing of the torch from one school year to the next, rather than setting an entirely new set of expectations each school year.

If you end up trying this for yourself, let me know how it goes. I’d love to see your creation!
